October in Marin means cooler mornings, changing leaves, Halloween decorations starting to appear around town, and, of course, the annual trip to pick out a pumpkin.
Whether you want a full afternoon at the farm, a quick stop to grab a few pumpkins before lunch, or a corn maze and enough activities to fill the day, there are several great options in and around Marin County. Here’s where to go for pumpkin picking and fall fun in 2026.
Nicasio Valley Pumpkin Patch: A Classic Marin County Fall Tradition
Best for: The quintessential Marin pumpkin patch experience.
Open dates: September 25–October 31
Set among the open hills and farmland of Nicasio Valley, the Nicasio Valley Pumpkin Patch has been a local fall tradition for more than 30 years, with plenty to do beyond picking out the perfect pumpkin.
During the week, you’ll find farm animals, two hay mazes for different age groups, a corn sensory play pit, scavenger hunt, games and shaded picnic areas. Weekends bring even more activities, making this an easy place to spend a good part of the day rather than simply stopping in for a pumpkin.
Admission and parking are free, which also makes Nicasio an easy outing if you want to keep things simple. The patch does get busy, particularly on weekends, so arriving earlier in the day is a good idea.
Grossi Family Farm Pumpkin Patch: Pick Your Own in Novato
Best for: Picking your pumpkin straight from the vine at a true local Marin farm.
Open dates: September 26–October 31
For another authentic farm experience in Marin, head to Grossi Family Farm in Novato, directly across from Stafford Lake.
Run by a fourth-generation Marin farming family, Grossi offers pick-your-own pumpkins straight from the vine along with a hay maze, hay pyramid, corn pit, lawn games and picnic area overlooking the farm pond. On weekends, you’ll also find farm animals and food available for purchase, plus a mini pumpkin slingshot and bunny experience for an additional charge.
It’s a nice middle ground between a quick pumpkin stop and a larger destination patch: there’s enough to make an outing of it, but the experience still feels centered around visiting a local Marin farm and choosing your pumpkins from the field.
Weekday admission is free Wednesday through Friday, while weekend admission is $5 for ages two and older. Parking is free.
Marin Country Mart Pumpkin Patch: An Easy Larkspur Stop
Best for: Simple and convenient pumpkin picking while you shop.
Open dates: October 1–31
Not every pumpkin-picking trip needs to involve a full day at the farm.
The annual Marin Country Mart Pumpkin Patch returns October 1–31 with heirloom pumpkins available through its honor system, an especially convenient option if you’re looking to pick up a few pumpkins and turn the trip into an afternoon in Larkspur.
Grab coffee or lunch, browse the shops, and choose your pumpkins before heading home. On Saturdays, you can also pair your visit with the weekly farmers market, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. And if you're there on a Friday, the Mart's outdoor movie nights continue through October 30 at 6 p.m.
Sometimes the easiest fall traditions are the ones that fit naturally into plans you already have.
Pumpkin Patches Near Marin County: Worth the Drive
Best for: A bigger day of Fall-centric activities, including corn mazes, live music, and spooky evening fun.
Open dates: Varies
If you want to make more of a day of it, head just north of Marin into Petaluma. Several pumpkin patches offer larger activity areas, corn mazes and evening hours, making them good options when pumpkin picking is only part of the plan.
Petaluma Pumpkin Patch & Amazing Corn Maze
Petaluma Pumpkin Patch combines more than five acres of locally grown pumpkins with its Amazing Corn Maze, which gets a new design each year. More than 50 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds are available, ranging from tiny decorative pumpkins to oversized carving varieties.
General admission and parking are free and include the kids' maze, straw mountain, corn kernel play area and farm animals. The larger corn maze and some additional activities require separate tickets.
For something a little different, visit on a Friday or Saturday evening, when the patch stays open until 10 p.m. and the corn maze becomes a night maze.
Pronzini Farms Pumpkin Patch
If your ideal pumpkin-patch outing includes food and live music along with the pumpkins, Pronzini Farms is another Petaluma option to consider.
The patch combines pumpkin picking with farm animals, a corn pit, hay tower, petting zoo, play areas and a long list of additional attractions. On weekends, there’s live music from noon to 6 p.m., along with food from local vendors.
For 2026, new attractions include a 150-foot Mega Slide, John Deere bounce house and Cow Tractor Ride. Some activities are included with admission, while others require a punch card.
There’s also a Fright Night on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout October, recommended by Pronzini for ages 12 and older.
Mickelson Pumpkin Patch
Mickelson Pumpkin Patch is another easy option just north of the Marin County line, particularly if you want the flexibility of later hours.
Located along Redwood Highway South in Petaluma, Mickelson is open daily for the 2026 season, until 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. That makes it particularly useful when a daytime pumpkin-patch trip doesn't fit the schedule.
In addition to choosing pumpkins, visitors can make more of an outing of the farm experience and seasonal activities.
Make a Fall Day of It in Marin
One of the nice things about pumpkin season here is that the outing can be as simple or involved as you want it to be.
A trip to Nicasio gives you an excuse to spend a little more time exploring West Marin. At Marin Country Mart, pumpkin picking can be one stop in an afternoon of eating and shopping. And from northern Marin, the Petaluma patches are close enough to make a spontaneous October outing feel entirely doable.
So grab a pumpkin—or five—and enjoy one of the best parts of October in Marin.
