Fourth of July in Marin County: Your Guide to the Best Local Celebrations in 2026
Whether it's a parade, picnic in the park, watching fireworks, or spending the day with friends and family outdoors, Independence Day is one of the best times to experience everything that makes Marin County such an incredible place to call home.
If you're looking for ways to celebrate this year, here's our guide to some of Marin's favorite Fourth of July traditions.
Marin County Fair & Nightly Fireworks (July 1–5)
No Fourth of July in Marin is complete without a visit to the Marin County Fair.
Returning July 1–5, this year's theme, "Stars, Stripes & Stories," celebrates America's 250th anniversary with five days of carnival rides, live music, local food vendors, agricultural exhibits, art installations, family activities, and one of the Bay Area's most beloved fireworks displays.
Each evening concludes with a spectacular fireworks show beginning around 9:30 p.m., making it one of the best places in Marin to celebrate Independence Day.
Location: Marin County Fairgrounds, San Rafael
Novato's Fourth of July Parade & Buckaroo Breakfast
One of the largest Independence Day parades in the Bay Area, Novato's annual celebration is a longtime local tradition.
Start your morning July 4th at 10 AM with the Buckaroo Breakfast before finding a spot along Grant Avenue for the parade. Expect classic cars, marching bands, equestrian groups, community organizations, military tributes, and plenty of small-town charm that brings thousands of spectators together each year.
If you're looking for a classic Americana Fourth of July experience, this is one of Marin's can't-miss events.
Location: Grant Ave. at Reichert Ave. & lasts approximately two (2) hours.
Corte Madera & Larkspur Fourth of July Parade
Another local favorite, the Corte Madera-Larkspur Parade has been bringing neighbors together for generations.
Beginning at Redwood High School and winding through both downtown Larkspur and Corte Madera, the parade is followed by a community festival featuring live entertainment, local food vendors, family activities, artisan booths, and plenty of opportunities to connect with the community.
It's a wonderful way to spend the morning before heading out for an afternoon barbecue or enjoying the fair later in the day.
Parade Details: Start Time: 10:30am
Street Closure: 10:00 am
Begins: Redwood High School, Larkspur
Ends: Corte Madera Town Center
Festival in Town Park: 9am to 4:30pm
Homestead Valley's Neighborhood Celebration
For a more intimate hometown celebration, Homestead Valley's annual Fourth of July festivities remain one of Marin's most charming traditions.
Residents decorate bikes, scooters, wagons, and strollers before joining the neighborhood parade, which ends with a community picnic in Stolte Grove featuring music, food, games, and family-friendly entertainment.
It's a reminder that some of the best celebrations happen right in your own neighborhood.
Sausalito Fourth of July Parade, Picnic & Fireworks
Spend the day along the waterfront in Sausalito.
The festivities begin at 10 AM with the annual parade through downtown before moving to Dunphy Park for an afternoon picnic with live entertainment. In the evening, Gabrielson Park comes alive with live music before fireworks light up Richardson Bay around sunset at 9 PM.
Few places offer a more iconic Marin backdrop for celebrating the holiday.
Know Before You Go: Golden Gate Bridge Closures & Travel Advisory
If you're planning to head into San Francisco or southern Marin on the evening of July 4, be sure to plan ahead.
To accommodate the special Golden Gate Bridge fireworks spectacular celebrating America's 250th birthday, the Golden Gate Bridge will close to all vehicle traffic beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m. and will reopen shortly after the fireworks conclude. Both bridge sidewalks will also close from 8:00-10:00 p.m., with additional pedestrian restrictions beginning July 3 to allow for event setup.
Because of the historic nature of this year's celebration, major traffic delays are expected throughout southern Marin, including Highway 101, Sausalito, the Marin Headlands, Alexander Avenue, and surrounding roadways. Officials recommend allowing extra travel time, using public transit or ferries when possible, or planning your return trip after peak traffic has subsided.
Whether you're spending the holiday close to home or venturing into the city for the fireworks, a little planning will go a long way toward making your Fourth of July celebration as enjoyable—and stress-free—as possible.
From all of us at Own Marin, we wish you a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day.
Happy Fourth of July!
